Whether you're close to taking your driving test or have already passed, learning how to drive safely on today's motorways is an essential skill which you'll want to master.

In 2018 approved driving instructors were given the authority to take learner drivers on the motorways, so during your driving lessons you'll now have the opportunity to practice all the elements needed in order to keep yourself, and others, safe on these faster, multi-lane roads.

But many people didn't have this chance when learning to drive, so at WS Driving school we welcome experienced drivers who are nervous of using the motorways for refresher lessons and specifically motorway driver training.
​
Contrary to popular belief, motorways are statistically the safest roads to drive on. You will have already been trained in how to deal with dual-carriageways, but driving on the motorway requires additional skills which you won't yet have mastered, and choosing to discover these in the safety and security of a driving instructor's car can make all the difference.

Motorway Lessons
I have been driving for the last 43 years and am fast approaching 60. Over the last few years I have slowly lost confidence and felt intimidated by the amount of vehicles on the road and, the manner in which people were driving them. I was unable to contemplate driving on the motorway, which limited my ability to visit my son and other close family members who all live some 3 hours away. I decided I may benefit from refresher driving lessons and searched Google for local driving instructors. Luckily for me Wayne rang me back within a couple of hours. Straight from the beginning his manner was warm and friendly and extremely positive in that he was sure he could help me and was willing to do so. He was so easy to talk to and discuss any driving worries no matter how silly they sounded. I had three lessons locally, during which we covered the use of mirrors, negotiating islands and parallel parking. I was shocked at how much I had forgotten of the correct procedures for these. From the first lesson my confidence grew and I felt more relaxed behind the wheel, and able to control the road around me despite the actions of others. I followed this with two afternoon sessions on the busy M6 motorway. Again Wayne’s warm and assured approach gave me bounds of confidence and I now feel equipped for any motorway journey I may wish to make. As an ‘older’ female, I had to ignore the self-doubting voice in my head telling me I was too old and would look ‘stupid’ having driving lessons, and I am so glad I did. I would encourage anyone in a similar position to contact Wayne and give themselves a driving make-over, which will definitely lead to more pleasant and stress free road use in the future.
